Desk Note: CCP Tag Adds 50% to Avoidance Credit Prices, WTI Rebounds to $94 as Group III Stays Tight

October 19, 2026 · 3 min read · CarbonXFuture desk, Fort Lauderdale

Carbon markets: EU carbon permits stood at EUR 85.41/t on October 16, down 0.50% on the day (Trading Economics). On the voluntary side, analysts at CFEL26 said avoidance credits carrying a CCP quality tag command prices about 50% higher than those without (Carbon Pulse, October 16), and CORSIA futures held above $13 with premiums for higher-rated credits (Carbon Pulse, October 12). Combined Verra and Gold Standard retirements fell 9% year on year in H1 2026, and insurers completed the first placement under Verra's durability pilot (Carbon Pulse, October 14). ACCUs last closed at A$38.10 (CORE Markets, October 15).

Waste oil and base oil: WTI November futures settled at $94.14/bbl on October 13, up from $89.44 on October 6, while Brent December traded at $106.07 on October 14 (Lubes'N'Greases Weekly Americas Base Oil Price Report, October 14). ExxonMobil communicated a 71 cents/gal posted increase on Group II+ (EHC45). Group I and II spot prices came under downward pressure on increased availability as producers released volumes held back during hurricane season, while about a third of US Group II+/III demand is still met by Asian base oils under strict allocations. Paulsboro Refining has started a five-week turnaround at its Group I plant in New Jersey. Gulf Coast low-sulfur diesel was $4.83/gal on October 12, from $4.51 a week earlier.

Takeaway: Crude is firmer and premium-grade postings keep rising, but Group I and II barrels are loosening. Collectors and re-refiners: do not assume higher crude passes through to Group I and II offtake, so review pay-for-oil terms against current spot rather than posted prices. Buyers: Group III stays allocated, so secure Q4 volumes early.

Our indicative CXF US Gulf assessment stands at $21.50/t and CXF re-refining credits at $19.90/t — desk marks, updated October 19, 2026, unchanged since our last published note (September 28) and matching the CXF price-history series.
